Over the years the Mor-Joy has changed hands, first to Bill's Saloon, then to Rog Kar's Saloon and most recently to The Brown Trout. In the spring of 1996, Bill and Kathy Jones converted the old place into a Northern Michigan restaurant. They added a full service kitchen, restrooms and a patio. The original interior design was carefully preserved but the exterior received a fresh look complete with a new log frame and foundation.
Imbedded in the tavern's fireplace is a unique fish made out of small stones. The sturgeon is painted brown with red speckles. The Jones' new addition to the interior design has become their good omen, they say.
"It's that omen, together with our customers that has made the restaurant a success. We hope you enjoy your visit to the Brown Trout and if there is anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable please let us know."
